Governor Declares January 2024 Human and Civil Rights Awareness Month
The Human and Civil Rights Commission and Division of Human and Civil Rights is pleased to share that Governor John C. Carney and Lieutenant Governor Bethany A. Hall-Long issued a Proclamation from the Office of the Governor in Observance of Human and Civil Rights Awareness Month. The Proclamation states
“Whereas, all human beings have the right to be treated with respect, dignity, fairness and equality, and are entitled to the rights and freedoms set forth in the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and Laws of the State of Delaware; and Whereas, organizations like the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission strive to combat violations of human rights through the enforcement of policies such as the Delaware Fair Housing Act and Delaware Equal Accommodations Law; and Whereas, The Delaware Division of Human and Civil Rights and the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission promote amicable relations among all Delawareans through education, public awareness, and community involvement, working to build a more just society; and Whereas, it is in the interest of every Delawarean to promote a culture that cherishes the diversity of our state, values all individuals, accords all people with equal respect and protects the human and civil rights of every person who calls Delaware home.
Now, Therefore, We John C. Carney, Governor and Bethany A. Hall-Long, lieutenant Governor, do hereby declare January 2024 as HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS AWARENESS MONTH
in the State of Delaware, and urge all Delawareans to stand together against violations of human and civil rights and reaffirm our commitment to equality for all.”
